13 June, Astana – The United Nations called governments, businesses, and cities to increase their efforts to accelerate the transition towards clean energy as the EXPO-2017 on “Future Energy” kicked off in a spectacular show.
At the celebration of UN Day at #EXPO2017Astana Mr. Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan Senate Speaker, joined the delegation of UN representatives in Astana, Mr. Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO and Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, UN Commissioner-General for EXPO-2017.
After the official part of the event, guests enjoyed the performance of the Artishok theater from Almaty, and then guided tour at the International Organizations Plaza.
The event followed by Ministerial Conference and Eight International Forum on Energy and Sustainable Development. Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu opened the panel discussion on energy efficiency.
“Energy is the most critical sector for addressing climate challenges. Energy sector transformation is therefore critical for countries to achieve their climate and development goals and objectives,” stressed Ms Sultanoğlu, “We need to maintain, strengthen and support the transition in all possible ways,” she added.
